A few days after his team lost in the first round of the playoffs, Denver Nuggets forward Ty Lawson took to social media to share his thoughts on the future of his team.
“They don’t care what I say.
They’re going to keep saying that, just keep playing like we did.
They’ll never give us a raise.
They have a whole team of players that play like that and are so hard to beat,” Lawson wrote.
Lawson has a point, but what if the team doesn’t play like this?
In the NBA, players can earn a salary on their free-agent contract that allows them to move up in the salary scale, even if they do not earn the max amount.
But the NBA doesn’t allow players to earn raises after that.
The average salary for a starting center in the NBA is $5.2 million, and for a guard, $3.9 million.
While that is certainly not the case in the Nuggets’ case, that raises the possibility that the team will pay Lawson a raise, something he is not happy about.
“If they pay me $3 million, I’m gonna be happy.
But if they pay $2 million and then $3, I’ll be disappointed,” Lawson said.
“I want to be a part of the team, but if I’m not going to get paid, I ain’t gonna be a member of the Nuggets.”
Lawson also said that he believes the Nuggets have to improve the team’s perimeter defense.
The Nuggets finished with the second-worst field goal percentage in the league last season, per NBA.com.
The team’s lack of a strong defensive perimeter player could hurt them on offense, as well, as Denver is ranked 22nd in points allowed per possession.
Lawson also took aim at the Denver fans that have been critical of the franchise’s decision to sign James Harden and not let him play for another team.
The Denver fans will be the ones that get hurt if we don’t make the playoffs,” Lawson tweeted.
Harden’s contract expires after this season.
If the Nuggets do not make the NBA Finals, he is expected to be the subject of trade rumors.
I would love to be in Denver and I’m ready to go, but at the same time, if they don’t get me, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Lawson added. “
There ain’t no one I’d rather be in my life than the Nuggets.
I would love to be in Denver and I’m ready to go, but at the same time, if they don’t get me, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Lawson added.
“This team is the best in the Western Conference.
If I was the owner of the Denver Nuggets, I’d say, ‘You got to take your business elsewhere, because you don’t have the best team.
I want my family to be here. “
I hope I don’ get traded, but I’m really happy with this team, I love it here, and I want to continue to grow here.
I want my family to be here.
But that ain’t the way it is, and we have to take care of this, and that’s why I’m here.”
